Introduction to HEART
HEART is the new national model providing a structured, system-wide approach to managing exposure to trauma and supporting recovery.
The model sets out clear stages:
- Holistic approach
- Education on trauma and resilience
- Assessment of risk and trauma impact
- Response strategies
- Trauma informed
The model ensures that trauma risk management is embedded within everyday supervision and governance and will consist of a suite of three interlinked documents:
- Part one - Risk assessment, providing guidance on assessing risk in your force according to current legislation, measure to mitigate and manage risks to your workforce.
- Part two - Educate and Inform. A workforce that has received the relevant training and educate on risk will be better able to protect themselves. This document outlines how best to achieve a trauma informed workforce.
- Part three - Respond, which outlines how to appropriately respond to the risks identified to protect your workforce, including post-incident and occupational health provisions in line with current legislation.
These documents can be used as single stand alone guidance or as an interconnected suite of guidance, depending on your forces current needs.
*The full guidance document is in development and will be published here, soon.
