Peer Debriefing Model Course

Welcome to the Peer Debriefing Model, a brand-new online learning course that is available directly through the Oscar Kilo website.

This course has been designed to support police officers and staff in navigating the challenges of exposure to difficult or traumatic incidents.

About the Peer Debriefing Model course

Day-to-day policing can often involve exposure to challenging scenes and incidents. While many of these experiences can be processed naturally, some incidents may affect us more deeply, impacting our emotional and physical wellbeing.

This course is designed to equip people with the tools to help themselves and others process these emotions effectively. By learning a structured, non-clinical debriefing approach, participants will gain the skills to support their teams and colleagues in managing their responses to difficult incidents and returning to the job they enjoy.

What you’ll learn

  • Understand what constitutes a traumatic incident and how it can affect people.
  • Recognise trauma symptoms and how debriefing can support recovery.
  • Implement a two-part debriefing process for your team or colleagues.
  • Learn when and how to signpost individuals to professional support.
  • Prioritize self-care while supporting others.

The course also includes short films of best practices and printable materials to guide you in implementing this debriefing system effectively.
