It’s with a heavy heart that we have to say goodbye to OK9 dog Freya. After becoming ill before Christmas and subsequently diagnosed with an aggressive cancerous growth behind her nose, Freya is currently receiving end of life palliative care at home with her family.

Although there is never a good time to be given this type of news, the OK9 team at Warwickshire Police are buoyed by remembering all the positive impacts she has made in her seven years - trips to school with her human sisters, visits to the local old people’s home, walks around her village and the interactions she has had with so many officers and staff across the force.

Freya was the first OK9 Wellbeing dog in Warwickshire Police and since then, the team has grown to include Danny Boxx & Bear, Helen Waite & Vesta, Georgie Gillie & Bonnie and Rob Camp & Bob. In November, the Warwickshire OK9 team were recognised nationally, receiving an Oscar Kilo award.

In her career as an OK9 dog, Freya had well over 600 contacts and personnel interactions including visits to patrol bases, Leek Wootton HQ, and Stuart Ross House amongst others, as well as supporting events such as annual family days, response policing week and mental health awareness weeks.

Freya truly loved coming to work and she would go and stand by the back door wagging her tail, always ready to do the best job she could.

All of us at Oscar Kilo and the wider OK9 network are sending our love to Freya, her handler Steve Webb and his family, and we thank her for all she has done. Freya you will be missed.
