We have three online courses running in January 2023.
Demobilising and defusing training: Dates in January 2023
Demobilising and defusing training is scheduled for:
- 11 January 2023 - Northamptonshire (online)
- 18 January 2023 - Surrey and Sussex (online)
- 25 January 2023 - Surrey and Sussex (online)
Overview
Demobilisation is a primary stress prevention conversation that takes places following a traumatic exposure. It involves a short conversation and though normally carried out by a supervisor following a traumatic incident, the role may also fall to a suitably trained peer supporter.
Defusing is provided around three days post incident. It helps assess who may need further help and support. Defusing is a small group process: less structured and aimed at the core group affected the most by the incident. Groups will meet with a Defuser, usually a line manager or Peer Supporter, to hold a Defusing session. Individual one-to-one sessions can be held if required.
Is this course for me?
Demobilising and Defusing training covers the following areas:
- what is traumatic stress
- organisational responses to traumatic stress
- listening and responding skills
- self care
- Demobilising
In order to successfully complete the training, delegates must attend for the full duration of the course.
There will obviously be some occasions when delegates have to leave the training early because of an emergency situation arising during the course.
In these circumstances, we will require the delegate to attend a future course to complete the training.
This one-day training course covers both Demobilising and Defusing.
These courses regularly take place throughout the year and dates will be supplied directly to forces who have adopted this training.
How to access this training
To be considered for one of these courses, you must firstly contact your force wellbeing lead who may put your name forward. Please note we are unable to accept individual applications for this course.
What previous delegates are saying about this course
Thoroughly enjoyable course. I found this course extremely useful and something I will use in my everyday job. Thank you!
I did not know what to expect from this course, but found it extremely useful, especially in my current role. My officers deal with traumatic incidents on a regular basis and this course has really shown me not only the benefit of Defusing and Demobilising sessions, but also it has given me the skills to do it and the guidance, Thank you.
